Hailed as a “complete musician – a sensitive artist and an extremely talented young pianist,” Congyu Wang is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, Steinway Artist, author, and cultural ambassador whose career spans more than six continents. Renowned for his poetic depth, technical command, and compelling stage presence, he is equally at home as a soloist, concerto performer, chamber musician, and artistic director.
Born in Singapore, Congyu Wang began playing the piano at the age of three. He later received a prestigious scholarship to study in Paris at the École Normale de Musique, where he worked with celebrated French pianists Jean-Marc Luisada and Odile Catelin-Delangle. He continued his advanced musical training at the Schola Cantorum in Paris with Gabriel Tacchino, the only student of Francis Poulenc—an artistic lineage that has profoundly shaped Wang’s musical voice and affinity for French repertoire.
From an early age, Congyu Wang achieved remarkable success in international piano competitions. He won Grand Prizes in Berlin and Bordeaux, and received top awards in Vulaines-sur-Seine, Lagny-sur-Marne, Mérignac, Paris, Jakarta, Tallinn, and the Clé d’Or Réunion. In 2016, he was featured by Lianhe Zaobao as Singapore’s Most Promising Young Artist of the Year. At the Chopin International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Slovenia, he was awarded Sixth Prize—an outcome that led jury member François Weigel to resign in protest, publicly affirming Wang’s exceptional artistry.
Congyu Wang has since performed in over 1,200 recitals worldwide, appearing extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. His festival appearances include the Château de la Verrerie Festival (France), Ernen Music Festival (Switzerland), Géza Anda Piano Festival (Berlin), International Isang Yun Academy (Paris), International Hammerklavier Piano Series (Barcelona), Amarante International Piano Festival (Portugal), Algarve Music Series (Faro), Chopin Festival (Belgrade), Göteborg International Piano Festival (Sweden), Denia Piano Festival (Spain), Lancaster Piano Festival (USA), Gulumsluk Piano Fest (Turkey), Les Nuits Pianistiques (Aix en Provence). He has performed for distinguished audiences including heads of state, diplomats, ambassadors, and members of royal families.
Widely admired for tackling the most demanding repertoire, Congyu Wang’s catalogue includes over 30 piano concertos, as well as the complete solo piano works of Frédéric Chopin and Francis Poulenc. He has collaborated with many distinguished musicians, including Roman Leleu, Agnès Kallay, Giancarlo de Lorenzo, Elena Xanthoudakis, Pascal Rogé, Grigor Palikarov, Massimiliano Caldi, Fernando Furones and Quatuor Arsis.
His discography includes the critically acclaimed album Charme (KNS Classical), dedicated to the music of Francis Poulenc, and Reflets, released in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Claude Debussy’s death. His recordings are regularly broadcast on major international radio stations such as France Musique, BBC Radio 3, Rádio Antena 2 (Portugal), Classic 102.7 (South Africa), Radio Vie (Réunion), and Symphony 92.4 (Singapore). In 2019, he was featured in the French feature film Une Barque sur l’Océan, directed by Arnold de Parscau.
Beyond the concert stage, Congyu Wang is a prominent cultural figure in international media. He has been interviewed and featured by CNN, Channel NewsAsia (CNA), and TDM (Macau Television), and appeared on the television series Find Me a Singaporean with Sharon Au. His artistic journey and contemporary influence have also been profiled by Vogue Italia, Luxuo, Esquire, and August Man. As a Steinway Artist, he was selected for a Spirio Cast performance broadcast from Hamburg, reaching global audiences through Steinway & Sons’ digital concert platform.
